The deck closure ceremony of the 4th Macau-Taipa Bridge was held on 18 March, marking a significant milestone in the construction of the monumental project.

The bridge consists of an approximately 3km-long marine viaduct, crossing two navigation channels and located on the east side of Ponte de Amizade. It will have eight traffic lanes, two of which are exclusive for motorcycles – a first in Macau. The bridge will also be equipped with wind shields to ensure safe driving during typhoons.

Arup has been providing project management, cost management and site supervision consultancy services for the fourth vehicular crossing linking the Macau Peninsula and Taipa.

Upon its opening, the bridge will effectively alleviate the traffic pressure between Macau and Taipa, and help meet the demand created by the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and future development of new reclamation areas.

What they say

Since its inception in March 2020, the project has faced various difficulties and challenges including the pandemic, adverse weather conditions, aviation restrictions and navigation requirements. The project team has been working closely together to overcome these hurdles, ensuring the project’s smooth construction. I would like to extend my gratitude to all the parties involved in this achievement.
