This is the first Energy Transition Commission report looking in-depth at the global buildings sector, which makes up a third of global CO2 emissions, and 10% of direct fossil fuel energy use.
Arup specialists contributed to the report, which draws a complete picture of the buildings sector’s emissions and energy use. It includes how, with the support of ambitious policy, a combination of electric, efficient, and flexible solutions can be used to decarbonise buildings, improve standards of living, and reduce energy bills.
After an introduction to the challenge the report details practical actions broken down in three sections:
- A: Decarbonising the energy used to operate buildings.
- B: Reducing embodied carbon from the next generation of new buildings
- C: Actions by government, industry and financial institutions
