Onshore wind
Onshore wind represents a proven technology, deployed at scale in markets across the world. It benefits from a mature global supply chain to deliver commercially competitive renewable energy generation.
Our wind experts provide services from feasibility studies to operation, supported by electrical, civil, and structural engineering expertise. The environmental planning team leverage extensive experience ensuring regulatory compliance and delivering onshore wind farm consents.
Arup transaction advisory specialists perform technical and commercial due diligence to support appraisals, transactions, or serving as lenders’ technical advisor. Depending on client needs, this can include material risk evaluation, energy yield assessments, grid connection studies, or life extension options.
After successfully incorporating wind energy at its Cork site in 2014 – the first global Johnson & Johnson site to install a wind turbine – DePuy Synthes appointed Arup to advise on the feasibility of a second turbine at its nearby Loughbeg facility. Generating more than 32 million kilowatt-hours, DePuy Synthes’ initial turbine provides 35% of the site’s total electricity consumption, offsetting 14,000 tonnes of CO2.
Arup’s environmental and health and safety consultants, alongside engineers, investigated the site and recommended a suitable turbine location in line with the engineering, safety and environmental constraints. Building on this successful collaboration, Arup is working to explore the renewable energy solution installations at other Ireland sites.

Renewable energy
The installation of renewable energy capacity – be it onshore and offshore wind, solar or hydroelectric power – is rapidly accelerating and pushing aside hydrocarbon-based energy. Working alongside its clients, Arup aims to support whole-system integration for each renewable energy asset.
