Floating offshore wind
Floating offshore wind offers great potential but comes with many technical engineering challenges.
We support floating wind project development through wide-ranging technical expertise, enabling us to act as project manager, owner’s technical engineer role, or in an engineering design role.
Through levelised cost of energy (LCOE) models and cost breakdown analysis, we are able to contribute to the bidding and early-stage project phases. From floater concept assessment and shortlisting through to wind turbine generator concept modelling, we support clients in bid preparation and early-stage project development.
Specialist offshore floating wind challenges such as mooring and anchor design and analysis, transportation and installation, and operation and maintenance (O&M) studies, as well as full offshore and onshore electrical support, can all be undertaken.
We are regularly involved in innovative research and joint industry projects seeking to advance floating offshore wind technology, and is fully immersed in academic and industry developments.
Ireland’s wind conditions make offshore wind a key enabler in achieving the country’s Climate Action Plan.
Arup’s civil and electrical engineers, engineering geologists and offshore structures specialists worked closely with leading blue economy project developer Simply Blue Group, on pre-FEED (front-end engineering design) works for a 1.35GW floating offshore wind farm, Western Star.
