The Dutch roads authority Rijkswaterstaat launched a long term bridge maintenance programme. As part of our renovations we have developed a real-time sensor system to monitor the performance of bridge components in real time and enable the client to better calculate remaining service life. By analysing large data sets from measurements on the bridge and the traffic that crosses the bridge, Rijkswaterstaat can now schedule maintenance and use available resources more efficiently.

We have pioneered the use of remote digital technologies to speed up the inspection process and reduce the need for onsite inspections. 

Arup Inspect is our drone-based façade inspection system. It maps a building’s exterior and helps clients to plan repairs and maintenance in the most challenging locations. This approach reduces time spent on manual inspections by 70%, as well as significantly reducing risks.
