Bus network optimisation
An optimised bus network relies on rigorous analysis of network coverage, travel time catchments, demographic appeal and adoption, as well as network and corridor modelling.
Our analytical skills ensure that our clients have a full understanding of the impacts and benefits of network improvements and corridor measures. ‘People movement’ strategies and modelling are specialist skills at Arup, bringing data-driven analysis to human behavioural insights, shaping effective decision making.
Ticketing and technology
Smart ticketing and real-time service information are critical to attracting passengers, and provide data to help manage bus operations. Arup teams have designed and procured ticketing systems, vehicle location systems, and associated integrated systems, which address passenger needs and operational requirements.
Bus decarbonisation
We work with local transport authorities to develop the business case for zero emission buses. We also advise on charging systems and have designed pilot projects for electric bus fleets. For example, we’re helping the Welsh Government realise its target to transition to a zero emission bus fleet by 2035.
New York’s Lower Hudson Transit Link (LHTL) programme is aimed at modernising and enhancing transit systems and operations on the I-287 corridor between Rockland and Westchester Counties.
When completed, the ITS will feature 124 new and upgraded traffic signals, 26 miles of fibre optic communications, 32 variable message signs (VMS), 117 detectors, 13 ramp meters, 42 CCTV cameras, 26 bus shelters, 2 HAWK signals, and 5 flashing beacons—all designed and with construction support from the Arup team.
