Arup's Cardiff office was commissioned by British Airways to act as design team leaders for the company's advanced maintenance facility - capable of servicing 747 jets - at Cardiff Wales Airport.

Considerable attention to environmental sensitivities was necessary in its planning, whilst the building itself involved installing state-of-the-art specialist maintenance structures ~ as well as raising probably the longest continuous space girders in Europe.

In supporting the rennovation of the Prudential Corporation's HQ in London , we needed to upgrade Alfred Waterhouse's celebrated building to modern standards, whilst being respectful of the listed interiors and facade.

Other projects in this issue include our work for Spanish fishing group Pescanova, who commissioned Arup to build a new fish factory, causeway and jetty in Namibia, a look at our fire engineering for a new LNG manufacturing, storage and sales facility in Zimbabwe and an energy efficient design for the Dusseldorf Tower in Germany.
