The original Whiteleys building was constructed at the beginning of this century in London's fashionable Bayswater. It became famous as the world's largest department store, but after the war went into decline, together with the surrounding area. 

The original Whiteleys building was constructed at the beginning of the 20th century in London's fashionable Bayswater. It became famous as the world's largest department store, but after the second world war went into decline, together with the surrounding area. 

The rejuvenation of this building, for which Ove Arup & Partners was hired as structural and services engineers, has had a considerable effect upon the locality, which is benefiting from an influx of investment and is once more coming into vogue.
