Arup has announced a strategic partnership and investment in Halo Energy, a Hong Kong-based startup specialising in designing and building end-to-end fast-charging solutions for electric vehicles (EV). This collaboration aims to develop and deploy market-leading EV-charging services throughout the Asia Pacific (APAC) region.

The APAC EV charging station market is poised for significant growth, projected to expand from an estimated USD 13.23 billion in 2025 to USD 27.74 billion by 2030, at a compound annual growth rate of 15.96%. This growth is fueled by the increasing adoption of EVs driven by their cost-effectiveness, environmental benefits, and stringent emission regulations. The market presents a compelling opportunity for innovative charging infrastructure to support the region’s shift towards sustainable transportation.

This collaboration is part of Arup’s Ventures programme, through which we supports early-stage companies that aim to transform the built environment for the better.

Halo Energy is currently the largest public fast EV charging network operator in Hong Kong, designing, building, and operating over 100 stations (with more than 1,000 charging points) while continuing its expansion across the APAC region. Through its comprehensive Charging-as-a service (CaaS) model, Halo Energy offers an unparalleled end-to-end user experience, seamless operations and enhanced efficiency.

Arup brings extensive expertise in the transport sector across APAC, having advised both public and private clients on key e-mobility initiatives, including the formulation of an e-mobility roadmap for Vietnam. Leveraging its market insights and regional network, Arup will support Halo Energy to further develop comprehensive solutions for planning and implementing electric charging facilities, accelerating the development of green transport in Hong Kong and beyond.

Ricky Tsui, East Asia Arup University Director, said, "I am pleased that our Ventures programme enables us to collaborate with an ambitious and innovative startup like Halo Energy. This partnership aligns with our commitment to advancing sustainable transportation solutions in the region. We aim to create a seamless and efficient charging experience that will facilitate the widespread adoption of EVs, contributing to a greener future for our communities."

Martin Tsang, co-founder and CEO, Halo Energy, said, "We are very excited about this partnership with Arup. Together, we can accelerate the pace of innovation in EV charging infrastructure and networks in Hong Kong and beyond."
