Gender equality and social inclusion
Programmes and projects that integrate gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) aim to address the social, legal, economic, physical, or digital barriers to participation faced by specific groups or individuals.
These barriers are recognised worldwide, but many countries grapple with development challenges and resource constraints that impede effective action. GESI is a fundamental consideration in our work. No matter the type of project we tackle, promoting equality and inclusion is at the heart of what we do. Together with our clients, partners, and communities, we develop strategies and take action to overcome the obstacles to change.
We have supported the United Nations Office of Project Services (UNOPS) in developing guidance for inclusive transport, energy, and water and sanitation infrastructure. At the heart of this guidance was a focus on promoting gender equality, social inclusion, and meaningful participation throughout the lifecycle of infrastructure development. Additionally, we worked for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and British Red Cross, to create guidelines for accessible, menstrual hygiene management-friendly, water and sanitation facilities in post-emergency contexts.
