Active transport – whether it's walking, cycling or other modes – plays a vital role in keeping us healthy and connected. Yet, it’s often designed with certain groups in mind, leaving others, like women, children, gender-diverse individuals, people with disabilities, and marginalised communities, feeling overlooked.

For a truly inclusive city, our active transport systems need to meet the diverse needs of everyone, ensuring safety, comfort, and a sense of empowerment for all.

In this episode, Dr Michelle Dickinson speaks with Henk Swarttouw, President of the European Cyclists’ Federation, and Dr Sara Candiracci, Associate Director in our Cities, Planning and Design team in Milan. Together they explore strategies to make active transport safer and more inclusive, global case studies and research.
