Sphere is a revolutionary music and entertainment venue, built by Sphere Entertainment Co. to redefine live experiences. Standing 366 feet tall, the world's largest spherical structure features a stunning LED exterior, known as the Exosphere, and a 16K resolution wraparound screen inside that integrates audio and video on a scale never before attempted. Designed by Populous, Sphere was built to transport audiences to new places with its immersive sound, haptic seats, and other 4D effects, making it a unique landmark on the Las Vegas skyline.

Arup led the implementation of the acoustics, audiovisual, and broadcast systems, and supported the development and integration of cutting-edge technologies, including beam-forming sound and infrasound-haptic systems.

Sphere redefines live entertainment by merging architecture, technology, and sensory design at an unparalleled scale. Its immersive audio-visual environment sets a new benchmark for experiential venues, and a new paradigm for live entertainment.

Delivering innovative, immersive design

Partnering with Populous, Arup led the design of Sphere’s acoustics and groundbreaking audiovisual systems. We worked with MSG to engineer a first-of-its-kind digital architecture capable of supporting show content exceeding one petabyte of data, delivering ultra-high-resolution audio and video at an unprecedented scale.

To achieve flawless sound across the 18,000-seat venue, our team performed advanced acoustic modeling and rigorous audio testing of the beamforming loudspeakers and the LED media plan. These technologies and their integration with the architecture was critical to realizing Sphere’s promise: a next-generation, fully immersive sensory experience for every performance.
