Living in an ever-increasingly connected world, data centers connect people to services, customers, and partners on a global network. Digital Realty is a data center world leader.
In 2017, Digital Realty (DLR) saw the opening of its new €60M data center in Amsterdam, AMS15. This data center, together with its flagship office, seamlessly blends into its surroundings in the Hoofddorp region of Amsterdam. The new center will add over 71,000 square feet of prime ‘white space’ to their portfolio, along with six new data halls.
We provided structural, civil, and building services engineering designs for this project. From inception to completion, we were excited to contribute to the technological advances the data center provides. Each data hall has been designed for a base IT load of 2MW, with the capacity to be upgraded to a possible 3MW based on the requirements of Digital Realty’s customers. This supports its business philosophy to ensure flexibility through custom solutions in order to accommodate varying customer demands.
Energy-efficient
AMS15 incorporates highly energy-efficient cooling systems. There is a supply of fresh air cooling to electrical rooms, along with indirect air cooling provided to the data halls. This innovative evaporative cooling contributed to achieving its BREEAM target rating of “Very Good”.
AMS15 utilizes a centralized high-voltage backup generator system and a distributed uninterruptible power supply topology to the critical load. Designed by Arup, in close collaboration with Digital Realty, this scheme provides a highly resilient, cost-effective electrical infrastructure. This approach is currently being deployed across Digital Realty’s expanding European portfolio.
