The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has announced Arup as the recipient of the Leadership Award for Organizational Excellence, recognizing the firm’s vision, leadership and commitment to significantly advance the green building industry.
Presented during the USGBC Leadership Awards Ceremony at Greenbuild 2025 in Los Angeles, the honor celebrates Arup’s enduring commitment to transforming how buildings, cities, and infrastructure respond to the world’s most urgent challenges, from decarbonization to resilience.
“This year’s awardees are a testament to leadership with vision and purpose. They represent the very best of what our movement can achieve,” said Peter Templeton, president and CEO of USGBC. “As we confront the climate challenges ahead, their relentless commitment to sustainable building is helping advance our industry and inspire others to take meaningful steps toward a more sustainable and resilient future.”
Arup is a leader in designing resilient, low-carbon, and regenerative solutions across the built environment. The firm’s dedication to climate leadership is evident from pioneering the first version of LEED to delivering hundreds of certified projects globally. This commitment is founded on designing for human and environmental wellbeing, embedding sustainability and holistic thinking into every decision, and partnering with clients and communities to shape a better world. For decades, Arup and USGBC have worked together to advance the industry by embedding sustainability, resilience, and equity into the core of building design.
Following the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles in January 2025, Arup partnered with USGBC California to co-author the “California Wildfire Rebuilding Guide,” which offers practical and sustainable solutions to help wildfire-affected communities rebuild with resilience, safety, and long-term climate considerations.
"Together, we have a shared responsibility and opportunity to lead the next generation of sustainability solutions,” said Scott Russell, Arup’s Americas Managing Director. “That means working together to advance decarbonization, resilience, biodiversity, and health not just as technical goals, but as human imperatives. With USGBC as a partner, Arup is committed to pushing boundaries through resilient and regenerative design, circular economy principles, and inclusive community outcomes.”
Arup is one of six global recipients to be recognized for advancing sustainability in the built environment through leadership and meaningful action. Honorees will be recognized at the USGBC Leadership Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, November 5, at the Awards Celebration and Founder’s Reception as part of the USGBC Experience at Greenbuild in Los Angeles.
The USGBC 2025 Leadership Award recipients inspire the industry with their actions and passion, representing some of the best of USGBC’s over 5,000 members and a network of committed professionals. Rooted in vision and action, the recognition demonstrates Arup’s continued dedication to collaboration with USGBC, setting the bar for excellence in the built environment.
“This award affirms what we’ve always believed: the built environment is a powerful agent for positive and lasting change,” Russell added.
