Simon is a Director at Arup and the firm’s Global Digital Energy Leader and Global Digital Twin Leader. He advises governments, industry leaders, and boards on digital energy, connected digital twins, data sharing infrastructure and smart data - helping them move from strategic ambition to practical, scalable delivery.
A chartered mechanical engineer and technology developer, with a background in renewables and offshore oil and gas, Simon brings an engineering perspective to complex interplay of technology, governance, and system change. His work has helped shape some of the most ambitious energy sector digitalisation programmes, including the Virtual Energy System Programme, the Digital Spine Feasibility Study and Flexibility Markets Unlocked.
He has led the development of Data Sharing Infrastructure (DSI) across energy and agri-food, bringing together technology, governance, and industry to enable data to flow securely between organisations. Through his work on smart data and connected digital twins, including the Gemini Papers, he is helping shape the frameworks and infrastructure that allow increasingly complex systems to become more connected, interoperable, and intelligent.
He is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and a Board Member of the Digital Twin Hub.
