He is regarded for his expertise in nonlinear stress analysis of concrete and masonry structures under extreme loading such as blast, impact, fire, vibration, earthquake and fatigue.

Matt has over 15 years of experience performing first principles assessment of structures using advanced finite element analysis methods, applying his skills to over 300 projects over his career, including landmark projects such as Merdeka 118, Sydney Modern Art Gallery, the Sydney Opera House, and Kurilpa Bridge. His work has covered most sectors of the built environment, developing bespoke engineering solutions to complex technical problems across the construction, buildings, infrastructure, mining, telecommunications, water and energy sectors.
