David Edge
Director
- Global Visualisation Leader
David is the creative lead for Arup’s visualisation studio.
His expertise – and the studio’s work – sits at the intersection of advanced visualisation, human/computer interactions, extended reality and gaming design. The high-fidelity, virtual environments we create give clients a powerful way to communicate unbuilt schemes to developers, communities, investors and government.
The day when visualisation only delivered an ‘artist’s impression’ are long gone. Our work has become an integral part of the design process and is used to drive better decision making. Using emergent technology, data and artistry, we can create full operational simulations. For New York’s Second Avenue Subway, for example, our photo-real visualisation drew on pedestrian analysis carried out using our MassMotion software to show exactly how people would use the station design.
David's work on major commissions has helped grow the studio and our abilities. We delivered the virtual launch of ArcelorMittal Orbit, a centrepiece of the London 2012 Olympics. We have visualised options for the proposed Garden Bridge and, recently, simulated the passenger experience on the UK’s High Speed 2 rail project. He is active in the visualisation and virtual environment community and sit on the advisory board of Immerse UK, the UK’s immersive technology network.
