Arfon is a lighting designer, project director and one of three founding members of the lighting practice at Arup. He leads the UKIMEA Lighting studio of 40 designers across 7 locations.
He is an acknowledged expert both within Arup and externally in the field of lighting design and technology, with a particular passion in daylight design. His expertise has shaped many of our key projects, including the Sterling Prize winning Sainsbury Laboratory.
Arfon has extensive experience working in multi-disciplinary teams on a wide range of building projects including; commercial, aviation, retail and residential developments as well as museums, theatres, libraries and exterior lighting projects.
He has authored and co-authored numerous lighting guides, including contributing to the BCO Lighting Guide, Society of Light and Lighting Daylight Guide (LG10) and Museum Lighting Guide (LG8), as well as the RIBA Technical Review series on Lighting.
Arfon is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Society of Light and Lighting and a member of both Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
As leader of the UKIMEA Lighting Skills Network, Arfon plays an active role in promoting lighting design within the firm, in educating young designers and engineers in lighting, in driving cutting-edged lighting-related research and in marketing the business externally.
