Canada and Colombia internship program
Each year, Arup seeks out a diverse set of students for our acclaimed internship and co-operative education program.
We look for students who are passionate about their field of study, who are curious about the professional world and eager to shape a better world through sustainable development.

Program details
At Arup, we offer paid internship and co-op positions in Canada and Colombia. You will work closely with teams and contribute to the success of the projects we are working on. This opportunity includes learning sessions with leadership, intern social events, site visits, and projects with other interns, along with the chance to present to our members.

Job responsibilities
During your time at Arup, you will collaborate with our members on many different projects and challenges. Responsibilities may include:
- Working closely with senior engineers, architects, planners and consultants on multiple projects
- Assisting in design and analysis
- Preparing and reviewing drawings
- Participating in interdisciplinary meetings
- Participate in local events including a site visit, social event, lunch & learns, and leadership connects.
- Work on a multidisciplinary, regional group project with interns across different offices leading to a final presentation shared with region peers, team members and leaders.
Our ideal candidate
We only hire the best. A few characteristics we look for include:
- Enrollment as a fulltime undergraduate or graduate student in a degree program
- For roles in Canada, we consider students who are available for the full internship duration. However, we prefer students to be enrolled in a post-secondary co-operative education program.
- For Colombia, we only consider students enrolled in universities local to our Bogota office and who are available for a six-month internship (pasantías contract).
- Prior project and/or internship experience
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team
- Self-motivated, innovative thinker, willing to take on new challenges
- Involved in extracurricular activities
When can you apply?
Canada
In Canada, we post positions three times per year. We offer 4-month, 8-month, and 12-month opportunities beginning in September, January, and May. We typically recruit for co-op and internship roles four months prior to an internship start date.

Colombia
In Colombia, we post positions twice a year. We offer 6-month internships (pasantía) for 1st Semester (January to July) and 2nd Semester (July to January). Our available roles will be posted on university portals along with our careers page. We typically recruit for these roles four months prior to an internship start date.

Online application
- All candidates must apply online and complete a job specific application. In Colombia, students must also apply via their university portal.

Resume review
- All resumes that meet the minimum qualifications outlined on the job posting are reviewed and assessed to determine a shortlist of the best candidates for further consideration.

Pre-screen
- Candidates who pass the resume review will be shortlisted and invited to complete the pre-screening step and assessment, which includes a Pre-recorded Video Interview (PRVI)).

Interviews
- After passing the pre-screen, candidates will be scheduled for an interview with the hiring manager for the role.

Offer
- Candidates who successfully pass the interview stage will receive a verbal offer, followed by written confirmation of their employment terms.

Arup takes on Interns and co-op students from a broad range of degree subjects. A few of the factors we consider are relevant course content, practical experience, leadership and an interest in the business area. All roles are listed on our website with required criteria for the specific position.

For Colombia, applicants must be enrolled in universities local to our Bogota office that we have existing agreements with, which will be reflected in job descriptions. Applicants will be required to apply through their university portal along with our career page.
We begin accepting applicants four months prior to an internship start date, pre-screening is ongoing, and, if selected, interviews are typically held during the second month of the recruitment process. We encourage candidates to apply early during our recruitment cycles as we receive a high volume of applications per position, and we review candidates on an ongoing basis.
There is no simple answer to this question. Arup employees a range of Interns and co-op students from all different degrees and backgrounds. If you think you fit in with the culture of the firm and are passionate about making a difference, then there may be a role for you! Requirements may vary slightly from job to job, so refer to the job description for the role you are interested in to see if you meet the requirements.

Unfortunately, Arup does not provide financial reimbursement for interns or co-op students who pursue any professional license or certification before or during their internship with Arup.
Training and professional development of our interns and co-op students is very important to us at Arup. There is a comprehensive portfolio of training available to enhance the knowledge, skills and outlook of all staff members. However, most of your learning will be done through on-the-job learning and exposure to real clients from the day you join.
